My So Called Life

I received a call from mum last night and she said that Maxis courier the latest bill to my home.  I was surprise to see that.  Wow, courier a bill.. mum open up the bill and found that the bill is like RM1648… what.. wow.. I recently did roaming to US for a week, and the bill comes up to RM1648… dam… I could have bought something nice with that.. man… I am set back this month by this much… it is so depressing… I am still shock on the bill…

I went over to BJC last night to have some photos printed (from http://sweetsour.uni.cc/galleries/thumbnails.php?album=12 ). I asked some of my friends here in office they told me that the cheapest that we can get for 4R digital print here in Penang is about RM0.45 per piece.  However, he doesn’t know where it was.  Since I was quite in a hurry, and I didn’t want to or rather lazy to scout around, I just went to a photo shop that I know in BJC, the ground floor Kodak Photo Shop that is in the middle (literally) of the complex.  It cost Rm0.60 per piece, quite a lot more than the cheapest price, but since I am only printing a few, I didn’t mind.  It only took a hour to get the photos developed and we paid RM4.00 for one of the photo to be blown up to 5R.  Notice the huge price difference between 4R & 5R.  However, the photos did not turn up as expected.  The shop pretty much adjusted the contrast and color a little and that resulted red blemishes (like rashes) to appea

It was raining so heavy this morning. By the time I reach the car, my pants and shoe is already wet. Atleast my top body is dry, better than some of the people that I see on the streets that whole body is drench. Since my shoe is wet, I took it off to give it some air. My pants on the other hand could not be taken off, is really freezing cold in this aircondition environment... I need to get to the cafeteria for my regular Nestlo to warm up...

I had a meeting with one of the US fab people at my 6am this morning. I woke up reluctantly as the alarm clock rings. It was raining and it was a very nice sleep. Hence, the reluctantcy.. By the time I manage to call this guy, it was 5 minutes over the meeting time and he was not at his desk anymore... aaarrrggghhhh.... dam.. will have to have another early meeting again later...

Mail to blog has broken down again.  Blogger.com has recently been plague by the Mail to Blog problems, and even their mail notifications has been down.  Blogger.com has committed to add more mail servers to cope with the mail traffics… it is still not closed yet.. hope it would be soon…

Two hours into my work today, I notice that the florescent light above me flickers like a disco.  I waited to call in as I was busy in the morning.  Out of my surprise, suddenly the Corporate Service / Facility people came and change the florescent tube… wow.. so effective, I have not even call in, and I checked with my cubicle mates, and no one called in about the light, and automatically the facility people came and changed it.  According to my cubicle mate, there are facility people that goes round to check if there are lights that went out and get them changed immediately… wow.. so effective.. if only the whole country is in this condition…

My Favourite Pizza outlet here in Malaysia, the best pizza one could ever have here in the big M. Pizza Hut & US Pizza is so far away from Dominos in terms of the taste. One thing about dominos pizza is that it has to be taken hot, right from the oven. Chicken Peporoni is my fav, followed by the clasical chicken and then tandori chicken. The only way to go with Dominos is on Thin Crust. Try it today, you won't regret it.

Some of my blogging friends has stop blogging. Some due to lost of intrest, some due to lost of friend, and some due to lost of time. Nevertheless, I continue to inspire others to start blogging. The latest is my darling, who recently started her blog at http://kukumalu.blogspot.com and in turn, her blog has inspire some of her other friends to blog as well... the cycle starts again... in time, some will stop, some new ones will come... it is just like life.. thousands die, and yet, thousands are born by the minute... The Cycle of life... applies to everything.. including blogs...

One of my colleague foreword this to me today, instead of sending it out, I am sharing it here… Hi Friends, Just to share with you an incident that happened in the GH Penang carpark about 2 wks ago.Hope you will let your friends know and so everyone will be more careful. My wife went to GH to visit someone and as she was returning after the visit at night, she sat in her car and was about to start the car when someone, who was wearing a cap,came to her and knocked on the window gesturing that she had a flat tyre. My wife ignored the man (she had always locked her car door) and started to drive away but found it quite difficult as indeed she had a flat tyre. She refused help from this stranger and phoned me. I went to her aid as fast as I could. Luckily she was OK but told me the stranger was waiting for a long time refusing to leave her. The next day as I took the tyre to the tyre shop for repairs was shocked to see that the tyres was actually slashed several time

It’s a wet and gloomy Monday Morning here in Penang.  It has been raining over the weekend and the haze has been cleared significantly.  The office is very quiet as it is Monday morning, it is the only day in the week where majority of the people here (excluding me) comes to work 10am and beyond.  Monday morning is always a slow start here… Work that rely on interaction with others won’t get done till afternoon, as by then only the full working force can be seen and things starts to warm up… This is the way it is here… don’t think this will change, unless the company’s flexible working time policy changes…

Going to KL to see the new born baby... !!

I received my Shell Stickers today, well yesterday actually, today only I saw it over the table.  It was in a huge envelope that marked “Do not Bend” on it and it was sent from UK.  I didn’t know what it was at first until I got it open… a nice set of F1 stickers.. hymmm… where can I place them..??..

I receive a feedback from Chee Aun (Thanks Chee Aun) that the penangblogger.uni.cc is loading a little slow due to the heavy page.  He was right, as I have not remove any of the postings there for like week now. So, I manage to clean up the page and then I realize, the feedonfeed software that I am using actually build the index page on the fly connecting to the SQL DB, etc.. It does not built ready a static page.  That is why it has been loading rather slowly.  Guess to make it load faster, I may need to look for other type of software...

Thanks to Lucia & Sara for the invite, I have setup an account for my mum.  Since I am going home this weekend, I can get mum to start using it.  Hehe…    

Finally.. the long overdue rain… hope the haze will be cleared off a little…

Inspired by one of the post by someone earlier... not sure who, could not remember... anyway, he/she really wanted the Gmail account, but could not get it and tried the Gmailmachine, and got a very close number. The requirement was 1337, but he got something like 1339 or 1332, very close. So, I was inspired to try, to see if I can get 1336 or 1338. I was aiming for either of this so that I could blog about it.. hehehe.. was not really going for the Gmail accound. And so, after a few clicks, this is what I get... Aiseh man... didn't get what I want... but this is close enough.. hehehehe... so close and yet so far.. hehehe

How many MP3 do you have? This guy has more than 10K of songs occupying 52Gig of space (even the meanest Ipod(40G) also cannot support)... wow... Anyone has more songs than him? let me know... he could like join the Guniess book or something... he has over 768 minutes of songs, which mean if the player were to be left playing, it would take 32 days to finish up the songs... a whole month before the playlist replay again... amazing... I was searching for my travel receipt all over at home last night as I thought it was tuck nicely away at home.  To my horror, when I tried searching for it last night, it was no where to be found.  ML was also mobilize to turn the room around searching for some sheets of paper that will turn into huge chunks of money later.  After more than 30minutes of searching, I finally accepted the fact that the receipt may be lost and I may have to discuss with my manager on how to file the claims.  And so, we went to sleep not feeling easy.  This morning when I got to work, I suspect the receipt is here somewhere and so I went through my desk.  There was a pile of junk papers at a corner and to my surprise, the receipts were there.  How the hell did it get there? Beats me.. no one knows… I don’t have any memory at all how it got there… Is it the age thing? Can u spot a face?  

While I was driving to Kulim this morning, I was wondering… in such thick haze.. does the Speed Trap Guns still function well? Can they operate in thick hazy condition.  One thing for sure is that when there are thick haze, the visibility is very low, because the light penetration is very low.  For Speed Trap guns that works on the Infra Red technology, there is a possibility that these guns may not function well, or most likely, the distance from where the guns operate may be reduced to from several KM to just < 1KM.  But bottom line is, the guns may still operate, it is just a matter of distance.  For radar speed trap guns, we know that atmospheric distortion such as clouds, water particles, etc, can distort radar.  So, can thick haze distort radar as well? There is a possibility.  Again, most likely, the distance for this type of gun to operate may be very well reduced.  But it is still operational.  So, the conclusion for myself is that, the cops are still able to c

Tuesday is when Megapavilion in Penang has RM5 for all movies. †I would usually try to restrain my self watching movies during the weekend as the movie tickets price are usually RM9. †So, last Tuesday I booked two tickets for Harry Potter at 6.30pm. †I went home early and had early dinner and make our way to the cinema, but only arrived at the cinema 15 minutes before the movie. †Unfortunate for us, the booking has been cancelled as the cinema policy is that the tickets must be collected an hour before the movie. †Actually I have initially requested to have the tickets collected late, but guess the person who took the booking did not make the note for the booking. †So we asked if we can just purchase the tickets on the spot, to our surprise, the cinema was already æ filled. †Ok… we then tried other movie, The Punisher, wow, Punisher also æ filled. LCF Weblog has brought to my attention of Rediffmail, a web mail server that provides free mail service with 1G of web space.  My mum has been using Hotmail for quite some time.  The problem with hotmail is that when the account is not access for some time, like 3 months or so, the account is deactivated.  And have re-activate the account again with all the hassle.  And so, I have been looking for a new mail account for my mum to use.  When Gmail was first announced, I thought wow, 1G, this would be the best cause my mum gets loads of attachments from families world wide and she has to always download them and archive them as hotmail only has a mere 2 meg of space… Now with Rediffmail in the horizon, no need to wait for Gmail anymore.  I will be going back this weekend and can migrate mum immediately.  Bye Bye Hotmail… Hello Rediffmail…. I brought my nephew from Australia to OneStop last Friday to look for some VCD that he wanted. We could not find it in Gurney Plaza and I though One Stop would be the next best destination, since it is so close by. While we were making our way to the various VCD shops, I notice that NovelHut, that has been at OneStop since the beginning of time has closed, and in itís place another bookshop with some Chinese name. Its so sad.. NovelHut has been a place to get comics, old books, and cheap National Geographic mag & a games hut. Unfortunately, at that time, the shop was closed, so I could not go in and find out what happen to NovelHutÖ I could remember, when I was a student in Taiping, when ever we come to Penang, One Stop, sure to stop by Novel Hut to check out the comics thereÖ those were the daysÖ

I have been having problems with Mail to blog for quite some time.  I believe the problem started after I have blog repeatedly through mail recently, and maybe the server thinks that this is mail spam or something.  Nevertheless, I have change the mail address, and see if this latest post comes out.  Last week, I sent about 5 post to blogger, but none of them got through.

Our Company cafeteria has funny pricing on B'fast & Tea Time items. The Pancake is priced at 50c in the morning, and 40c in the afternoon... strange isn't it. It is the same item, probably left over from the morning...guess this must be the reason... left overs.. that is why it is cheaper...

The Haze in Penang is getting worst. The visibility is down to like 2 miles or less. Today, there is some hope for the haze condition to improve as there are some clouds lingering around the Bayan Lepas area.

I must have overload the sweet and sour server, till it was unaccessable this morning. I manage to get in, at a very slow pace, and change the cron job settings for the penangbloggers.unil.cc site. The initial setting was to run the cron job looking for update every 5 minutes, and when it is done, send out a mail to my mail accout. I guess it is too taxing for 1 processor server to do that, and it almost crash. So I change the frequency to 30 minutes and remove the mail address, so that the server do not have to send mail at all, less server load. Imediately I make the changes, everything is back to normal, my sweet and sour site is accessible again and the server load has drop from 25 to just 2. Phew...

Ok... I have setup Cron Job so that the syndication could run every 5 minutes and refresh. Am not sure if the cron job is running or not, and so, I just blog to find out.

I have wanted to setup something like Petaling Street Project , but not where users have to ping the site. Instead, I would like to use the Syndication technology that recently becomes a hit. I found this Feed on Feed tool and tried it. The setup is done, and beta is on the way. I have just setup penangbloggers.uni.cc for a few testers to access the site. Lets see how this goes...

I had lunch at Yataimura today, as we were craving for some Japanese food. The place was packed when we arrived and there were already about 5 people infront of us waiting for a seat. Imediately I notice that there were empty place on the individual seats and asked if me and ML can sit there. She nodded and we imediately settle down. I already wanted to have katsu don before comming here, and so I did not pay too much attention to the menu. The menu has been changed since the last time when I was here, which is like more than a year ago. After some deliberation, ML also wanted to have katsu don, and I felt like there is no variety in our lunch, and so I persuade her to have ramen. When we order the ramen, the waitress asked which level of spicy hot do we want? Level I, II or III, we were like.. huh... wah... ok, lets take the least spicy one... Level I. The other day, when I arrived from my week trip to US, I notice that there was something new in the toilet. A bottle of Bella Facial Clenser & Make up remover. Imediately I thought of ML, as she would use this, but I later found out that it belongs to Mithi. I was surprise, and it stuck on with me as a teasing item for him. Mithi has a make-up remover... wait till I blow this in the office.. hehehe..

It is time to write my monthly report. It is due today, infact it was due like 51 minutes ago... anyway, it is a tedious process, need to recall back what I have done in the past month, and have to put everything down as clear as possible, so that my boss can just cut and paste my report into theirs and send it out as the group report out...

I installed this ergonomic reminder into my notebook that was distributed in the company.  This reminder will pop up every X minutes and remind user to stretch and give computer ergonomic tips.  One pop up just now and says that when typing, the wrist should not be rested at anywhere, the wrist should be hovering above the keyboard.  I am trying this out now, and it sure feels funny.  All this time, I have been typing with my wrist rested on the keyboard.  The Ergo keyboard that I have from Microsoft has a huge base where my wrist can rest upon.  Will try out this hovering method and see if I can get use to it.  Now I kinda feel a little strain on my fingers for typing this way.. hehehe.. maybe I have achieved ergo with the old method and now changing, it will be a strain to the fingers.. hehe..

It has been 6 months since, and the house OC is yet to be in sight.  I have just called the House developer, a small developer compared to the big fishes here in Penang, and as usual, he is not in his office.  Wonder what these Rich Developers do in the day… My patience is running thin, the verbal promise of OC about 6 months ago has broken, and this has shaken my confidence in this developer.  The last I went to see the house, the grass was starting to creep into the house.  Wonder if I will get the house this year.. wonder if a tree will grow in the house before I get to move in.  Recent government initiative to encourage the developers to built and then sell seams to be the best idea at the moment.  It is a little too late for me.. but then, to prevent these delinquent house developers keep harassing the citizen, this is the right thing to do.  

I was out with my Technical Boss from Costa Rica last night and we were scratching our heads on where to go.  I have not been out to any clubs for like ages, 3 years to be exact, and do not know where to go.  My housemate on the other hand, who is rather happening, also did not have any idea.  We finally decided to go to Screw Ball, a local pool pub, which has passed it’s prime.  We arrived there at about 8.30pm and started to play pool.  Since I have passed my prime, I kinda find the whole event a little tiring, wanted to go home.  Played a game with Mithi & Gustavo, out of luck, I did not loose much. Hehe… then played a foosball game with BK, creamed him, but later got smashed by Gustavo, with a miserable 8 goals with only 1 return.  At the strike of 10, I decided to end the evening and make my way home.  

I have never been to Japan before, this is my first time. Though I have not went out of the airport, I have atleast step onto the the Land of the Rising Sun and also leave some of my Waste DNA there... hehe...  

Dam… missed my flight and got stuck in LA… not sure how long I will be stuck here.. so ironic… some people want to get out of US, cannot leave.. some people want to stay in US.. cannot stay… its always like this…

I arrive way past dinner time last night and all my colleagues has all eaten.  I then decided to head for the nearest McDonalds to fill the stomach.  I have not taken the Super Size meal for a very long time, more like 2-3 years already.  The last time I had it was in Oregon.  When I received it, I was shock to see the size of the drink and fries.  So huge.. Will post the photo that I have taken compared with my nokia handphone…

I arrived at Penang International Airport rather early at 8am, while the flight will only depart at 10.30am. I came early to have B'fast and also check-in early to get the seat of my choice. When I arrived, the Check-in counter was closed. It only open 15 minutes later at 8.15am, and I was among the early people to check in. When I enquire for the Sin-LA flight to get Seat # 31 or 34, the lady at the check-in counter said it was full, hymm.. this is strange, so early(flight will depart from Sin at 4pm) and full already, ok, never mind, just give me any isle seat, I exclaim. It is also full sir, she said again, Huh!!??? I was dumb struck... In disbelive, I asked, so early full already? this is strange? she then said that out of the 170 seats, 90 has check-in already... wow... I said, this is really early.. I got a miserable window seat and I was beginning to suspect that SIA has a new online check-in. I did not pay too much attention to it after that.

There is no free wireless(wifi) at Changi Airport. I aproach the help desk enquiring for one, and the girl mention that the entire airport is wireless, anywhere can get signal, however, user needs to be a subscriber. User can lease a subscription, but only in Terminal 1. I am in Terminal 2 and so, no wireless access for me. How many international users would subscribe from Singapore for wireless... hymm.. maybe this is only for the nyich market only... I am now at another free internet access terminal. However, the sponser of this terminal is unclear, as there is no brand names being advertise here. There is another 40 minutes till the boarding time, and I am reluctant to boot up my notebook to work. Wonder if the plane has any power adapter, so that I could use the notebook for longer than 2 hours. At times like this, batteris that last 9 hours are very useful, will have to request for one.. not sure how to justify for it.. hehe...

Arrived at 11 something at Changi Airport and stright went to boot up the PC to get my presenstation material done. I saw many of my colleagues on the same flight and everyone is heading to US for some reason. It is unusual to see so many of them on the same flight.. It is like a mini office on the air. Hehe... I have a total of 4 presentations to be completed, and I decided to do the one that is due on Monday, luckily for me, only one of the 4 is due on Monday, I have finish most of it, and will need touch up during the flight. I have only 2 hours of battery life, will have to make the best of it when flying. Just finished lunch and thought of checking in before the next long flight. When I got down and switch on the phone, M1-GSM appear and whola, I am on.. hehe.. first time on roaming... ada katak bawah tempurung sikit... seronok... Well, going to check out some of the outlets here to find out the prices of some stuff, checked out the VSOP cognac just

Clinique is cheaper in US compare to Malaysia, the price difference is quite alot for some and not much for others, the facial soap for instance, in Parkson it is RM60, at clinique.com, it is USD10, which is RM38 only. For the Clarifying moisture #2, May Lin just bought one 6.7fl bottle for RM70 at parkson, but online, it is only USD 10.50, which is only RM39.90, round up to be RM40, a sheer RM30 difference. Looks like I will have to stock up for May Lin this trip... hehe...

MBF Master Card Advert says that if one signs up, one can get a sony clie or MP3 player free. However, in the fine print, there are additional charges, like one has to pay for the clie or MP3 player package, which rounds up to the cost of the items. If one choose not to take the package, one only get one year membership fees waived.. man... why would I want to pay for a credit card? Southern Bank gives it for free...

I was walking in with my bag after lunch, out of bad luck, I bum into two of the department top managers on separate occasions. The first was like, Hey!, shouted loudly, and then stares at me... And I was like.. heya!... and move on. Then the second manager has a surprise expression on the face and was like, Hi!... Are you ok? Yea yea!, I exclaim.. Are you really alright? Everything Alright? Yea! Yea!, I replied again, Are you sure? Yes, No Worries, I replied the final time, and I walked away... wow.. what is wrong with them... wait a minute.. what is wrong with me? hymmmm... then I remembered. I trim my beard and style it differently today... I guess this must have been the cause... !!..

Dam... a last minute request just came in for next week's Face to Face meeting. Not sure if there is time to get a good presentation out...

the meeting was suppose to start at 8am, it is now 10am... chair and key person shadow are not to be seen... all agenda will have to be push out 2 hours...

When I blog through mail, it takes more than half a day to get posted on the blog. It is no more fun when the sent post does not apear imediately, like it used to... sign... so for now, I will have to blog through the blogger.com site... tedious..

Sometimes, I get so frustrated because of other people’s in competency, especially on project management.  I have come to realize, that I myself is also not that great after all.  Though I do not have some of the problems that others has, but I too have some problems of my own.  And that is why, a greater patient are needed, when we deal with incompetency people.  Cause we at some level are also in competent.  It is just who are we comparing with..

Wah lau eh… I was walking out of the toilet just now and out of a sudden my colleague, of which I do not know well asked, “So, how many kids do you have now?” huh?? I am not even married yet I replied… then he was like.. eh, I thought you have like 2 kids liau… hey, I exclaim… don’t see that I have some misai, it means I have kids liau… it was a young ciku guy asking, probably want to strike a conversation with a veteran like me assuming that this veteran is married with kids… hehe.. so strange.. I almost choke when he asked…

Dam, I told everyone that I will have an haircut, and I have cancel all my appointment, especially on the watching the day after tomorrow movie.  Come to find out later, when I reach the barber shop "Brothers", it was close on Tuesday... haiyo... now I have to make all the way there again tomorrow...

When my colleague who is currently working in US found out that I am coming over, the first thing they ask is “Can bring over some Milo ar?”.. haha… Typical Anak Malaysia.. go until where also think of Milo… I will be bringing over some… 1KG refill pack for one of my friend, 1 KG because I will be staying with him for a week, as rent money, and another 3-in-1 pack for another friend of mine who has generously brought some Hooters Chicken Wing source back home…

I Just had a meeting with my Technical Manager that started since 8am.  The dreaded part of working life is that the first thing in the morning, have to meet with the boss… That pretty much spoils the whole day.  But, I have a cure, Neslo is the name.  A mixture of Nescafe and Milo, gives the coffee some chocolaty taste, not so much like a mocha, but more milky… Better still, if it is a Neslo Tarik, it will give some nice foam on the top…
